ABSTRACT

Qingyan Dropping Pills have the effects of relieving wind and heat, detoxifying, and promoting the pharynx. It is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicines to treat acute and chronic pharyngitis, as well as sore throats and dry throats caused by surgery. Recently, many studies have shown that Qingyan Dropping Pills have certain effects on bacteriostasis, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiviral activities. As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic enters the post-epidemic era, the regular use of drugs for COVID-19 pandemic symptoms has become a new trend. Therefore, there is a good market prospect to explore and develop Chinese patent medicines with antiviral effects. A preliminary study on the herbal formula and material basis of Qingyan Dropping Pills revealed that they have potential for antiviral applications. In this paper, the research on the quality study and antiviral effect of Qingyan Dropping Pills was reviewed, and the research direction of its secondary development was discussed to provide ideas and references for the new use of old traditional Chinese medicines.

ABSTRACT

Gastric cancer is the most prevalent gastrointestinal tumor in China, threatening the life and health of patients. Surgery is one of the available therapies, which, however, induces postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction (PGD) and other common complications. The pathogenesis of PGD is still unclear and no efficient targeted drug is available. In addition, the limited treatment measures fail to effectively improve gastrointestinal function. As a result, patients generally suffer from low quality of life and poor prognosis. In Chinese medicine, PGD belongs to the categories of "vomiting", "stuffiness and fullness", "regurgitation", "abdominal distension", "intestinal impediment", and "intestinal accumulation". In recent years, there has been an explosion of research on the PGD of gastric cancer in Chinese medicine, and many research results have been obtained. On this basis, this study introduced PGD in modern medicine, and causes and pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation-based treatment, and clinical studies of PGD. It was found that diverse internal and external treatments are available in Chinese medicine for PGD such as internal use of Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine enema, auricular point seed-embedding, acupuncture, and moxibustion, which feature ease of implementation, small side effects, definite efficacy, and significant effect in combination with other therapies. This paper summarized the ideas and measures for treatment of PGD of gastric cancer by Chinese medicine, the research outcomes, limitations, and research directions, which can serve as a reference for further research on treatment of PGD of gastric cancer by Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

Aortic dissection (AD) is a life-threatening vascular disease due to the tearing of aortic intimal layer, leading to the formation of pseudocavity. Once the acute progression of dissection happens, serious complications such as rupture and stroke may occur. The current imaging examinations for AD are invasive and may cause adverse effects related to contrast medium, which cannot be used for large-scale screening of AD. The latest studies have found that metabolic processes and metabolites of lipids, saccarides and proteins are involved in the pathogenesis and development of AD. In this article, we review the research progress in the caracteristics of AD related metabolism, summarize changes of specific metabolites in AD,and explore the clinical implication of studies on AD related metaboliome..

ABSTRACT

Objective: Taxifolin is a natural flavonoid compound that can be isolated from onions, grapes, oranges and grapefruit. It also acts as a medicine food homology with extraordinary antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to explain the protective effects and potential mechanisms of taxifolin against inflammatory reaction. Methods: Levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) were assessed in different time after the treatment of taxifolin in RAW264.7 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Subsequently, the mRNA and protein levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and the phosphorylation expression levels of the MAPK signal pathway were also evaluated. A silico analysis was used to explain the binding situation for the investigation of taxifolin and MAPK signal pathway. And then MAPK inhibitors were used to reveal the expression level of iNOS, VEGF, COX-2 and TNF-α in RAW264.7 cells. Results: It was demonstrated that cell inflammatory damage induced by LPS was significantly alleviated after the treatment of taxifolin. Then, the mRNA and protein levels of iNOS, VEGF, COX-2 and TNF-α were reduced and the phosphorylation expression levels of the MAPK signal pathway were down-regulated remarkably as well. In silico analysis, taxifolin could form a relatively stable combination with MAPK signal pathway. MAPK inhibitors showed increasing or decreasing effect in the mRNA levels of iNOS, VEGF, COX-2 and TNF-α, which suggesting that taxifolin down-regulated iNOS, VEGF, COX-2 and TNF-α expressions were not entirely through the MAPK pathway. Conclusion: This finding demonstrated that taxifolin improved the inflammatory responses that partly involved in the phosphorylation expression level of MAPK signal pathway in RAW264.7 cells exposed to acute stress.

ABSTRACT

Immune checkpoints are the crucial regulators of immune system and play essential roles in maintaining self-tolerance, preventing autoimmune responses, and minimizing tissue damage by regulating the duration and intensity of the immune response. Furthermore, immune checkpoints are usually overexpressed in cancer cells or noninvasive cells in tumor tissues and are capable of suppressing the antitumor response. Based on substantial physiological analyses as well as preclinical and clinical studies, checkpoint molecules have been evaluated as potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of multiple types of cancers. In the last few years, extensive evidence has supported the immunoregulatory effects of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). The main advantage of TCMs and natural medicine is that they usually contain multiple active components, which can act on multiple targets at the same time, resulting in additive or synergistic effects. The strong immune regulation function of traditional Chinese medicine on immune checkpoints has also been of great interest. For example,

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the lens and pituitary dose impacted by additional filtration and collection field in head and neck DSA examinations. Methods All images were acquired by a Philips ALLura Xper FD 20 DSA machine. The combination of the different collection fields (48 cm, 42 cm, 31 cm, 22 cm) and additional filtrations (0.9 mmCu+1.0 mmAl, 0.4 mmCu+1.0 mmAl, 0.1 mmCu+1.0 mmAl) were adjusted when the anthropomorphic phantom filled with dosimeter was scanned in anterioposterior and lateral positions with 2D?DSA and 3D?DSA. The dose area product (DAP), air kerma (AK) and the radiation dose values of bilateral lens and pituitary were measured and recorded. The 2D and 3D?DSA regional absorption dose on lens and pituitary were analyzed using t' test, the correlations between DAP and AK parameters and different regional absorption doses were evaluated by Pearson rank correlation coefficient. Results Absorption doses of left lens, right lens and pituitary with 2D?DSA (n=12) were as following:(2.77 ± 0.68), (6.23 ± 3.54), (8.65 ± 2.62) mGy, while the parameters with 3D?DSA (n=12) were (1.78 ± 0.82), (2.18±1.15), (3.32±0.64) mGy, respectively;the results revealed a significant difference (t'=3.20, 3.76 and 6.85, P<0.01). DAP [(8 739±5 731) mGy·cm2] had a relationship with absorption dose of pituitary, left lens and right lens [(5.988 ± 3.299),( 2.258 ± 0.872),( 4.207 ± 3.303) mGy, r values were 0.766, 0.684, 0.727; P<0.01]. AK values was (31 ± 23) mGy and it had a relationship with pituitary absorption dose (r value was 0.894, P<0.01). The lens dose was reduced when the additional filtration was increased and the collection field was decreased, the radiation dose of the pituitary was reduced when both the additional filtration and the collection field were increased. Conclusions In the head and neck DSA examinations, the radiation dose of the lens and the pituitary had different changes with the different additional filters and collecting fields. The organ dose with 3D?DSA was significantly less than that with 2D?DSA.

ABSTRACT

Objective To determine the measurement consistency of diffusion coefficient D, perfusion fraction f and pseudodiffusion coefficient D*in rectal cancers based on different ROIs. Methods Forty-three patients with histologically proven rectal cancers were examined using echo-planar DW-MRI with eight b values (0 to 1 000 s/mm2). Intravoxel incoherent motion parameters were measured on intravoxel incoherent motion map that contained the largest tumor cross-section, according to two distinct ROI protocols:freehand outline ROI and semi-automatic tumor center ROI. The two protocols were compared for differences in IVIM parameters and the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were also calculated. intra-and inter-observer variability using paired t test and Bland-Altman plot. Results The IVIM parameters(D, f and D*) obtained by ROIs for outlined and center analysis were (1.08 ± 0.24) × 10-3mm2/s, (0.16 ± 0.06), (26.59 ± 19.54) × 10-3mm2/s and (1.06 ± 0.27) × 10-3mm2/s, (0.17 ± 0.07), (30.79 ± 20.85) × 10-3mm2/s, respectively. No significant differences were observed between the means of the IVIM parameters (D, f, D*) calculated by the two methods (t=1.113,-0.259,-1.660;P=0.272, 0.797,0.104, respectively),and the relative ICC were 0.863, 0.469, 0.663, respectively. The intra-observer 95% limits of consistency of IVIM parameters were (-0.012—0.038) × 10-3mm2/s, (-0.003—0.007), (-0.923—1.166) × 10-3mm2/s with ROI outline tumor, respectively;(-0.024—0.044)×10-3mm2/s, (-0.005—0.015), (-1.670—4.195)×10-3mm2/s with center ROI, respectively. The inter-observer 95% limits of consistency of perfusion parameters were (-0.047—0.009) × 10-3mm2/s, (-0.015—0.009), (-7.206—3.190) × 10-3mm2/s with ROI outlined tumor, respectively;(-0.068—0.048) × 10-3mm2/s, (-0.005—0.041), (-17.657—0.779) × 10-3mm2/s with center ROI, respectively. Conclusions There was no statistically significant difference between the outlined ROI and tumor center ROI analysis of rectal cancers' IVIM parameters. The tumor analysis by outlined ROI protocol appropriately improves intra-and inter-observer consistency and can provide more reproducible and stable results.

Methods One hundred and ninety - two children with POTS were divided into Midodrine hydrochlo-ride plus oral rehydration salts group(84 cases),Metoprolol plus oral rehydration salts group(54 cases)and oral rehy-dration salts group(54 cases). The patients were followed up at the outpatient department after 3 - months treatment. Short - term effect was analyzed by reevaluating the symptom scores, repeating upright test and studying the side effects of the drugs. All the children were followed - up by telephone, mainly investigating on the syndrome recurrence and symptom - free survival by Kaplan - Meier analysis. The follow - up time was 3 to 122(42. 7 ± 24. 3)months. Results Short - term effect showed that the symptom scores were decreased after treatment(t = 21. 536,P ﹤ 0. 001). Head -up test showed that delta heart rate was decreased. The effective rates in the Midodrine hydrochloride plus oral rehydra-tion salts group and the Metoprolol plus oral rehydration salts group were significantly higher than those of the simple oral rehydration salts group(χ2 = 10. 905,P = 0. 004). But no statistical difference was found between the Midodrine hydrochloride plus oral rehydration salts group and the Metoprolol plus oral rehydration salts group(χ2 = 0. 042,P =0. 837). Long - term effect by Kaplan - Meier curve showed that the therapeutic effect of Midodrine hydrochloride plus oral rehydration salts group was significantly higher than any of the other two groups(χ2 = 13. 299,P ﹤ 0. 01),but no statistical difference was found between the Metoprolol plus oral rehydration salts group and the simple oral rehydration salts group(χ2 = 0. 150,P = 0. 699). Conclusions In terms of the short - term result, the effective rates in the Mido-drine hydrochloride plus oral rehydration salts group and the Metoprolol plus oral rehydration salts group were signifi-cantly higher than those of the simple oral rehydration salts group. The therapeutic effect of the Midodrine hydrochloride plus oral rehydration salts was superior to that of the Metoprolol plus oral rehydration salts and the simple oral rehydra-tion salts for POTS children by the long - term follow - up study.
